Dr. James Dobson's Best Advice to Families for the Next 200 years

Global Simulcast of Lead Film Oct. 1-5,

Series in Stores Now

WHAT: Capping a decades-long career of equipping parents to raise godly families, Dr. James Dobson’s BUILDING A FAMILY LEGACY—an eight-DVD series that combines his updated classic Focus on the Family videos with four new films from Dr. Dobson and his son, Ryan—debuts Sept 30. YOUR LEGACY—one of the new films that equips parents and grandparents to build a lasting legacy of faith in their families—premieres in a worldwide simulcast in thousands of churches Oct. 1-5.

A personal story of faith, YOUR LEGACY traces Dr. Dobson’s own family history to show what a tremendous difference praying families can make. It is an inspiring look back . . . and forward. Dr. Dobson’s great-grandfather started daily prayers over a century ago that the next four generations of his family would be Christians. YOUR LEGACY explores the breathtaking implications of intentionally giving your children a heritage of faith.

“It’s harder now to raise kids than it’s ever been because the culture is at war with families,” Dr. Dobson said. “I feel BUILDING A FAMILY LEGACY contains the most important message of my career. There is nothing more important than parents passing on a generational legacy of faith and values to their children.”

BACKGROUND: More than 80 million people—a third of the U.S. population at the time—saw the original Focus on the Family films that shaped the way a generation viewed family and parenting. In 2008, Ryan Dobson found those films gathering dust and convinced his father that today’s generation of young parents needs Dr. Dobson’s timeless insight more than ever.

The result? The BUILDING A FAMILY LEGACY DVDs with four classic films and four new films. The DVDs and simulcast are supported by new books from Dr. Dobson, Your Legacy, and Ryan, Wanting to Believe; by the updating and reissue of classic Dobson works such as Dare to Discipline and The Strong-Willed Child; and by a new series of study guides for the books and films.

Author of more than 40 books—including groundbreaking titles such as Dare to Discipline and The Strong-Willed Child, Dr. James Dobson is the nation’s leading advocate for the importance of godly families. He currently heads Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk, a nonprofit ministry and radio program. For 14 years, he was an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Southern California School of Medicine and was on the attending staff of Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles for 17 years. He earned his doctorate in child development from USC.

Ryan Dobson is a best-selling author, speaker and broadcast personality who calls people out of moral relativism and into “the ultimate adventure” of following Christ. He is vice president of broadcasting at Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk and serves as associate producer of the BUILDING A FAMILY LEGACY film series.

WHEN/WHERE: BUILDING A FAMILY LEGACY DVDs are available wherever Christian resources are sold.

The church and on demand simulcast of the first film in the series—airing Oct. 1-5—is free.

Upcoming His Kidz United CD Series Features Kids Singing Today's Top Christian Hits

‘Hallelujah,’ First Single From Unique CD Series, Offered As Easter Download by Worship Leader Magazine

SOURCE: McCain & Co. PR

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 18, 2014) – His Kidz United and INgrooves/Capitol Christian Distribution have announced the upcoming release of the His Kidz United CD series, a music brand for kids ages 5-14 which features kid-sung versions of today’s top Christian hits, including “Overcomer” by Mandisa, “Shake” by MercyMe, and “Speak Life” by TobyMac.

On April 29, His Kidz United, Volume 1 releases to major retail outlets, including Family Christian Stores, Walmart, Lifeway, Mardel Christian Stores, iTunes and Amazon. On the same day, two digital versions will also be released–a sing-a-long version and an instrumental version of all 18 songs on the project. All products will be bundled and discounted at the His Kidz United website.

The His Kidz United series is slated to release four new volumes per year. Each album offers 16 popular favorites plus two bonus originals.

Parents of four themselves, His Kidz United founders Jimmy and Mai Swan recognized a gap in the supply of uplifting Christian music kids can truly appreciate. A labor of love transformed the best of CCM into an album with which their own children would quickly fall in love.

“Up until now, there have been no other products like His Kidz United CDs,” says Jimmy Swan, executive producer of the project. “Why wouldn’t parents want to invest in positive Christian music for their children? And while the music is focusing on kids ages 5 to 14, we’re finding that young adults and even parents enjoy listening to the music, too!”

In celebration of Holy Week, Worship Leader magazine is offering the song “Hallelujah” from the upcoming His Kidz United CD, Volume 1, as a free download to its audience this week. To download the song, visit (emailunlock.com/hiskidzunited/hallelujah or worshipleader.com).

“‘Hallelujah’ is an elegant song that uses the voices of children to drive home some of Christianity’s foundational beliefs: God’s love for us, His provision in our lives, and the good news that we belong to the Father,” says Jeremy Armstrong, managing editor of Worship Leader. “This is a perfect song for kids, even adults, to sing today, and made even more poignant as we prepare to celebrate Easter.”

Proceeds of His Kidz United CDs benefit the Dallas Neighborhood Art & Music School–also known as NAMS School of Music–where all of the tracks are recorded and produced with NAMS students performing on the series.

Swan felt it was paramount to have a consistent group of kids performing on the series, and his friendship with the school’s director, Levi Bradford, made the collaboration a natural fit.

“Kids listen to kids,” says Swan. “Parents are careful to teach their kids about ‘stranger danger.’ When an adult approaches a kid, they tend to get shy. But the minute another kid enters the room, there is an instant connection. As a parent, I want to impact my kids with spiritual messages and let them rejoice in the Lord. What is the best way to do this? Let them connect with their peers!”

Sales figures from recent kid-focused projects prove that adults invest in kids. The Frozen soundtrack from the animated Disney blockbuster film of the same name hit No. 1 on the charts and sold three million copies of the DVD right out of the gate, and the KIDZ BOP CD series released by Razor & Tie has sold more than 16 million units of its first 25 titles.

With the official April 29 release of His Kidz United, Vol. 1 just weeks away, the CD can be pre-ordered through major retailers.

“Our mission with this series is to give kids an opportunity to be encouraged, inspired and drawn to the Lord through the powerful tool of music, and give them something to relate to,” Swan says.

Critically Acclaimed Author Maryann Macdonald draws inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci in latest offering

“Fresh and touching…a Christmas story to share and savor all the year long.”

— Richard Peck, Newbery award winner.

SOURCE: Rogers & Cowan

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Aug. 27, 2013) – Critically acclaimed author Maryann Macdonald announces the release of her highly anticipated holiday children’s book, The Christmas Cat (Penguin Group). Available nationwide on October 17, 2013, The Christmas Cat is a beautifully written read-aloud depiction of the Nativity story told in a new way and unique way with glowing illustrations by Amy Bates.

The inspiration for Macdonald’s soon-to-be published book came from Leonardo da Vinci’s drawing of, La Madonna del Gatto, the Madonna of the cat (circa. 1480-1481). In the drawings, Mary is lovingly holding the baby Jesus who is embracing a cat. After seeing the drawing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Macdonald wondered, “Was it possible that Jesus might have had a pet cat?”  Then she learned of a legend about a cat living in the stable who purred Jesus to sleep the night he was born, and began to imagine the long, loving relationship the two might have had.

In support of The Christmas Cat, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will offer the title in their onsite bookstore, and is currently considering The Christmas Cat for their 2014 Christmas catalog. The book will also be featured in Bookspan’s book club.

The Christmas Cat, with Amy June Bates’ luminous illustrations, will awaken children to the beauty of the Nativity story in a new way,” says Macdonald. “My hope is that this book brings children, who love animals, closer to the childhood of Jesus, who loves us all.”

Macdonald has written more than 25 books for children, including the historical novel Odette’s Secrets.  Based on a true story, this “gentle introduction to the Holocaust” tells of a Jewish child who survives WWII by hiding in plain sight with the help of Christian friends.  The book has received much critical praise and became an Amazon children’s/teen bestseller during the summer of 2013.

Award Winning Artist Jaci Velasquez Named National Spokesperson For Band Angels

NASHVILLE (May 21, 2013) — Band Angels, bandages for kids featuring healing scriptures, has announced a strategic partnership with multi-award-winning artist, Jaci Velasquez. Velasquez will serve as spokesperson for the product through promotional venues and make personal appearances on behalf of the company. Tim and Tami West, creators of Band Angels, say the relationship with Velasquez came about a couple of years ago when Tim was a guest on “Your Family Friendly Morning Show with Doug and Jaci Velasquez” on Salem Broadcasting’s nationally syndicated network, 94 FM The Fish. Velasquez was very complimentary of the product.

“I love this ministry and the idea behind Band Angels,” says Velasquez. “I have loved using theseprecious bandages with my kids, and they love them even more!  ZZ and Soren will ‘pretend’ to have boo-boo’s just so they can put them on!”

Since the product line was launched in 2009, Band Angels has sold over three million bandages and is currently available for sale in nearly 1000 retail stores. Tim and Tami West originally came up with idea for the bandages when their granddaughter was diagnosed with Type 1 juvenile diabetes. “When our four-year-old granddaughter was diagnosed, she had to be stuck with a needle four times a day,” says Tim. “One weekend when she was staying with us, I was watching Tami put a Scooby Doo bandage on her and it occurred to me — why are we putting something so trivial on something so serious? We had been praying with her for healing and I thought, what if we put a bandage on her that has a healing scripture on it? It would be a simple way to help teach her about God and the Bible.”

Band Angels recently launched a Spring marketing campaign which included a social networking element using Facebook and Twitter that generated more than 10,000 requests for free samples of the bandages. Additionally, a nationwide infomercial is airing on several television networks and regional stations. National television ad buys are tentatively scheduled to begin early this month on several mainstream networks including Nicktoons, Animal Planet, Game Show Network, OWN and the Live Well Network, among others.

Plans are in the works to begin incorporating Velasquez into impending promotions as quickly as possible and the Wests are eager to begin working with Velasquez. “Jaci has expressed such enthusiasm about Band Angels,” says Tim. “We are very pleased to have her be part of this expanding brand.”

About Jaci Velasquez:

With over 250,000 combined followers on Facebook and Twitter, Velasquez proves to be a seasoned artist who brings nearly two decades of experience to her latest venture. She has won seven Dove Awards, including New Artist of the Year in 1997 and two consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year titles. She has scored hits on both Billboard’s Christian music charts and Latin charts. In addition to releasing her latest music project entitled “Diamond,” Velasquez released a Spanish lullaby album for Fisher Price last fall and has starred in five new films over the past six months. Currently, Velasquez is heard by more that 1.5 million listeners on a daily basis as the morning show co-host on 94 FM The Fish, is in the process of writing a new book, leads worship in Houston, Texas once per month, and is finishing the filming of three new independent faith-based films. However, of the many hats that she wears, her favorite roles are being a wife to husband Nic Gonzales, lead singer of Salvador, and mother to their two sweet sons, Zealand and Soren.
